Trade unions to strike today…

On Wednesday, the Professionals Trade Union Collective has organized a number of strikes and demonstrations (1).

One of the key demands of the PTCU is the immediate repeal of the government’s new tax law, which would levy a 6% to 36% income tax band on any monthly income above Rs. 100,000.

While the trade unions affiliated with the Sri Lankan Railways, Health, Education, and Postal Services are not expected to strike, protests are expected to take place all over the island.

Today , more than 40 trade unions will stage strikes or other forms of protest, according to the PTCU.
