Requirements for the next police IGP….

The next Inspector-General of Police (IGP) should be an officer with exceptional service and no blemishes, emphasizes the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
In a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the BASL claimed that the police commander should be able to rebuild public trust in the Sri Lanka Police, which had seen a “severe degradation” during the previous few decades.
The association claimed that it is of the opinion that public confidence in the police is essential for the administration of justice and the rule of law and attributed the decline in public confidence in the police to lack of confidence, politicization, police brutality, custodial deaths, and a lack of professionalism.
