Past Deputy Minister jailed for six months…

Myown Mustapha, a former deputy minister, was given a six-month prison term by the Colombo High Court for attempting to bribe Mohammed Muzammil of the National Freedom Front to back Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka in the 2010 presidential election.
Mustapha’s civil rights were further suspended for a period of seven years.
Justice Aditya Patabendige of the Colombo High Court heard the matter on Friday (Feb 17).
Muzammil, who organized a media briefing on January 15, 2010, revealed that Mustapha had tried to pay him a bribe of Rs. 42 million to support Fonseka in the 2010 presidential election.
13 years after charges were brought against Mustapha at the time of the trial, the Colombo High Court rendered its decision.
