According to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the money that was available for the construction of 100 projects like the Mahaweli over the course of the previous decades was destroyed because the state sector engaged in commercial operations.

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), he remarked that in the future, the public sector will stop conducting business and leave it up to the private sector in order to foster a free and prosperous economy.
