Local Governing bodies to be expired……

At midnight today, 340 of the 341 local governing bodies will have their terms of office expire (March 19).

The following local elections were originally planned for last year after the 2018 Local Government election, which saw the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) win a majority of the seats.

But, because of the nation’s deteriorating economic position and political unrest, the municipal elections were postponed indefinitely.

As a result, local government entities’ terms of office were increased by one year.
