Indonesian official gone rogue….

An Indonesian court on Wednesday sentenced a police officer to 18 months in prison after finding him guilty of firing tear gas into a soccer match crowd of thousands, which resulted in 135 fatalities as terrified spectators stampeded to escape the gas.

An official investigation into the disaster came to the conclusion that the deaths were caused by the use of tear gas on the crowd. There were 32 children among the victims.

As crowds poured onto the pitch following the game in Malang, East Java, on October 1, 2022, the officer convicted of the crime, Hasdarmawan, was in charge of a paramilitary police unit known as Brimob.
