Elections postponed for the second time….

The elections for local government in 2023, which were supposed to take place on April 25th, have been postponed, according to the Election Commission, for the second time.

Saman Sri Ratnayake, the commissioner-general of elections, stated in a special media release issued today (April 11), “The decision was taken due to factors beyond the control of the electoral board and the paucity of funding to proceed with the preparations for the Local Government elections.”

As a result, the Returning Officers are expected to choose a date for the elections after consulting with the electoral authority, depending either on the availability of finances or the relevant court decision.
