BASL to fight for Independence….

Saliya Peiris, the chairman of the legal organization, stressed on Sunday that attempts were being made to routinely disregard court orders and vowed to fight to protect the independence of the judiciary from pressure coming from the government’s executive. 

Peiris argued that the legal community should now permit the executives to put the judges under stress during a seminar hosted in the southern town of Weligama. 

According to what we have observed, the executive branch consistently tries to disobey court orders, according to Peiris.
