An 11-year-old Kattankudy boy who was seriously hurt after an attack by his stepfather has passed away while receiving medical care.
The youngster’s father reported to the police on February 8 that the stepfather had beaten the 11-year-old before the boy was sent to the ICU of the Batticaloa Hospital.
Later that day, after acting swiftly, the police detained the stepfather, a 26-year-old resident of the Matale neighborhood.
The suspect was presented before the court yesterday and was given remand prison until February 14.
The child passed away from his wounds yesterday as he was undergoing treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Later today, the police will provide the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court with information regarding the event.
